Dana Stewart Biography

Dana L. Stewart was born, October 10th 1951, and raised in California, where he developed interests in art, animals and surfing. Early sculptural works were executed in various materials including ceramics, resin and welded metal. During his Master’s program at San Diego State University, Dana met Herk Van Tongeren, who introduced him to ceramic shell bronze casting. Herk invited Dana to come east in order to do “research” at the Johnson Atelier. A two-week visit to New Jersey turned into 30 years + ! Dana’s career evolved from being the head of the ceramic shell department at the Atelier in 1977 to operating his own commercial casting facility, called Stewart Sculpture Casting in Lambertville/NJ where he produces his sculptures in bronze and provides the service to many other artists.   Professional Experience 1985 – present Proprietor “Stewart Sculpture Casting”, Lambertville / New Jersey   Technical Consultant to Art Foundries & Universities / US & Canada 2003 Lectures and demonstrations at the York University and Ontario College of Art and Design, Toronto / Canada 1987 Instructor Rutgers University, New Brunswick / New Jersey 1984 Foundry workshop instructor for staff & students at the Johnson Atelier, Mercerville / New Jersey 1982 Technical Advisor for Art Castings of New York, Queens / New York   Owen Foundry and Pattern Co., Norfolk / Virginia Bronze Extraordinary, Uppers Ville / Virginia 1977 – 1984 Ceramic Shell Department Head, Johnson Atelier Mercerville / NJ  Foundry & Ceramic Shell Department Head, Technical Institute of Sculpture, Princeton / New Jersey Education M.A. San Diego State University, San Diego / California
