Maggie Leiby Biography
Maggie Leiby was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After spending many years in the Atlanta, Georgia area, she and her husband, Bob, returned to Pennsylvania and settled in Doylestown Township. They have two grown daughters, Madeleine and Jennifer.
Maggie worked as a registered nurse until, in 1988, a serious illness and a life-altering dream changed the course of her life. Following the words spoken by God in her dream, she began private painting lessons. In 1991 she recognized the need to formalize her art training and enrolled at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, graduating, Magna cum Laude, in 1994 with a BA in Studio Art.
Maggie works in oils, watercolor, pastel,
and egg tempera. As a believer in life-long learning, the artist has
attended many workshops offered by acclaimed artists, such as Nelson
Shanks, Paul DuSold, Dot Bunn, Lois Griffel, and Master Iconographer,
Vladislav Andrejev to increase her knowledge and skills. She has
studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and at Studio
Incamminati.
The artist’s travels to Japan, Mexico, England, Ireland, France, Italy,
Switzerland, and The Netherlands inspire many of her paintings.
This award winning artist is a member of
Oil Painters of America, The Philadelphia Sketch Club, The Rockport Art
Association, Delaware Valley Plein Air Painters, River Rats Plein Air
Painters, Doylestown Art League, New Hope Art League, and Artsbridge. The artist teaches
painting classes from her home studio. Commissions welcomed.
Leiby's work has been displayed in various venues throughout Bucks,
Chester, and Montgomery Counties, as well as, in New England. Her
paintings are in collections throughout the United States and Europe.
